St George's Church in Heybridge Basin is the daughter church of Heybridge St Andrew's. Our simple wooden building dates from the first world war, when it was used as the Sergeants' Mess on Goldhanger Airfield. It was given to the village in 1920 by the Bentall family to serve as a mission church. Seating 70, St George's has a warm and welcoming atmosphere and, in addition to worship, provides a venue for village meetings. The church has been licensed in recent years to be used for marriages. An active Friends group is working to raise funds for an extension housing toilets, kitchen and meeting room facilities
